Foster named to apprentice staking program; Quimby now engineering clerk

Carolyn FosterCarolyn Foster has entered the Apprentice Staking Engineer program at La Plata Electric Association (LPEA). Long-time LPEA employee Tiffany Quimby will replace Foster as Engineering Clerk, joining the Engineering team within the cooperative.

The Apprentice Staking Engineer program is a four-year training endeavor that will ultimately lead to Foster’s full-time position as a Staking Engineer.

“It is a natural progression, and I’m looking forward to the continued education,” said Foster. “As Engineering Clerk I have been the first point of contact with new construction. Now I will learn how to actually design and layout the power lines for our members’ properties or projects.”

A graduate in liberal studies from San Diego State University, Foster joined LPEA in 2013, having previously learned the industry during her seven-year tenure with San Diego Gas & Electric. She is also a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves, where she achieved the rank of Sergeant and served in psychological operations.

Tiffany QuimbyQuimby, in her new position as Engineering Clerk, now becomes the first point of contact for members and/or contractors initiating new construction projects or seeking changes to existing electric infrastructure.

Raised in Durango, with a detour to Portland, Ore. while her husband attended culinary school, Quimby has served at LPEA for nearly 20 years in the Finance & Accounting Department.

“I am very excited to be a part of our talented Engineering group and learn from them, take my career in a different direction, but still be with the company that I love,” said Quimby. “I feel very fortunate that I work for a company like La Plata Electric that gives their employees the opportunity to move to other departments and take on new challenges.”

LPEA, a Touchstone Energy Cooperative established in 1939, provides to its more than 30,000 members, with nearly 42,000 meters, safe, reliable electricity at the lowest reasonable cost, while being environmentally responsible.

LPEA offers a variety of apprenticeships and employment. To explore employment, or for additional information, visit www.lpea.coop.
