• Hotter named Apprentice Linemen at La Plata Electric Association

Training program is designed to build strong Operations team for the future

Dalton Hotter has been named to the Apprentice Lineman program at La Plata Electric Association (LPEA), working toward earning his Journeyman Lineman and joining the profession responsible for constructing and maintaining electric power distribution lines and facilities.

Hotter joined LPEA in 2016 as Storekeeper, working with the warehouse and purchasing, as well as the line crews, to ensure needed equipment and tools are stocked and available. His knowledge of the different components that go into the construction and maintenance of an electrical system provide a solid base for entering the Apprentice Lineman program.

Hailing from a multi-generational Durango family, Dalton Hotter was born and raised in Durango, and earned his Bachelor’s degree in marketing management from Western Governors University. Launching his career initially in construction, he sought to tackle a new discipline when joining LPEA, and had a goal to become a Lineman from the outset.

LPEA’s program is sanctioned by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers as well as the Department of Labor. The four-year apprentice program includes 8000 working hours on-the-job, with mentor linemen in the field, as well as simultaneous scholastic study in the evenings, and written examinations.

“Employer-sponsored apprenticeship programs are the best educational and training tools our industry ever invented,” said Justin Talbot, LPEA manager of operations. “It’s an excellent process for perfecting the professional and highly-skilled work trades our industry requires.”

LPEA, a Touchstone Energy Cooperative established in 1939, provides to its more than 30,000 members, with in excess of 42,000 meters, safe, reliable electricity at the lowest reasonable cost, while being environmentally responsible.

LPEA offers a variety of apprenticeships and employment opportunities. To explore employment, or for additional information, visit www.lpea.coop.
