Glossary
Base Charge: Minimal amount required to have active service. This covers the coop's maintenance for employees to maintain the infrastructure, upgrades, repairs, and outages. It essentially keeps the poles upright and the lines in the air to deliver electricity to all members at all times of the day or night. LPEA separates the base charge line item from the energy charges for transparency and to give members more control over their usage.
Peak-Charge/Peak Power Charge: This charge is based on usage between the hours of 4pm – 9pm ANY day of the week for ONLY 1 HOUR of the member’s billing cycle when the member’s usage is the highest per kw during this time span. It is NOT charged daily but only for one hour, once/month. This charge covers the higher rate LPEA is charged by our supplier (Tri State G&T Association) and occurs during the same highest usage time on our system, or during “Peak Power” usage hours when the system is meeting the highest demands of the membership. To avoid this charge members may want to consider our Time of Use Rate, thus eliminating this charge and also reducing the monthly base charge to $20/month vs $21.50/month……refer to TOU*
Energy Charge: The base cost per kilowatt hour the coop charges is based on what our Coop supplier Tri-State G & T (Generation & Transmission) Association charges LPEA Coop to deliver electricity to the membership
Demand Charge: Charge based on your meter size and type, usually larger meters with more demand requirements than an average residential meter. This charge is based on what the Coop has to anticipate being able to deliver to a specific meter at any given time of the day or night. It is based on the member’s once/month highest kilowatt hour over an entire billing cycle to accommodate the member’s individual electrical needs at any given time.
Coincident Demand per KW per Month: Event peak between 4pm – 9pm
