Living in our community can be financially challenging, often stretching budgets, especially during the holidays. That's why each winter, LPEA's Giving Tree Program rallies members to raise funds, helping neighbors keep their lights on. We're dedicated to ensuring no one faces the cold and darkness, particularly during festive times. Last year, our collective efforts raised $10,689.27, aiding 137 struggling members to enjoy a brighter, warmer season.

Now, we're inviting YOU to help this tree of kindness grow. Join the ranks of those making a difference in someone's holiday season. It's simple to contribute, and every little bit helps a neighbor in need. Here's how you can participate from November 27, 2024 to January 31, 2025:

  1. Use Venmo: Make your donation quickly and easily using @GivingTree_LPEA.
  2. Make a Call: Feel free to ring us at (970) 247-5786, and we'll assist you with your donation.
  3. Drive & Drop: Grab a Giving Tree envelope at our drive-through lanes in Durango or Pagosa. Just put your donation inside and drop it into the clearly marked payment box.
  4. In-Person: Hand your donation directly to a friendly face by visiting one of our local offices.

Our Giving Tree program sprouted its roots in 2017, born from a genuine desire to help those facing tough times. It all started when our team noticed that too many people were having a hard time keeping their lights on during the holidays. "The willingness of people to help others, especially at this time of year, is genuinely magical," shared Aubrey Gillespie, LPEA Member Service Manager. And the magic has spread - with more than $55,000 donated by our cooperative members over the past few years, bringing relief and happiness to over 1,000 households.

We've seen incredible generosity from businesses and non-profits in Archuleta and La Plata counties. "The support from our business members has been truly heartwarming," remarked Gillespie. One standout moment was when a member walked into our Durango office with a surprise $1,000 check right before the holidays. This generous gift brought instant holiday cheer to several families.

This season, you can be the spark that lights up someone’s holiday. Whether it's easing a burden for a senior on a tight budget, bringing a smile to a disabled veteran, or gifting a surprise to someone close to you, your kindness can be a beacon of hope. Remember, you have the "power" to turn the holidays around for someone in our community. Let’s radiate warmth and light together this season!
