Each year, LPEA’s electrical infrastructure faces damage from hunters using our equipment as targets while sighting their scopes. This vandalism results in costly repairs that ultimately impact our co-op members. More importantly, it’s incredibly dangerous. When LPEA equipment is struck by a bullet, it can break, leading to power outages or, in some cases, sparking wildfires.
Shooting LPEA’s equipment is considered vandalism. Beyond the financial burden and inconvenience to our members, these incidents can result in hazardous conditions, requiring our crews to undertake risky repairs to restore power.
To help mitigate these risks, LPEA proudly supports the Durango Gun Club’s “Sight-in Days,” offering hunters a safe, controlled environment to prepare for the season.
Sight-in Days 2024 Dates:
- October 10-11, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- October 24-25, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- November 7-18, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
During these days, the Durango Gun Club’s outdoor range on La Posta Road (CR 213) is open to the general public for rifle scope sighting. Hunters are encouraged to use this opportunity to ensure their firearms are ready for the season. LPEA has donated $500 to help cover the costs of these events. In past years, around 500-600 hunters have utilized this free service.
