Date Published

At LPEA, our vision extends far beyond providing reliable electricity. We are dedicated to shaping the future by building trustworthy community partnerships.  Recently, we had the privilege of sending four exceptional students from our service territory on an enriching trip through our LPEA Youth Tour program. Join us as we celebrate the accomplishments of one student, Ethan McGuinness, who was elected to represent Colorado on the prestigious Youth Leadership Council.

A Gateway to Opportunity:

Each year, LPEA offers a transformative opportunity through the Youth Tour to students from our service territory. Through visits to iconic landmarks, engaging with policymakers, and participating in interactive discussions, the Youth Tour equips young individuals with valuable insights and inspires them to become leaders in their communities.

Ethan McGuinness: A Beacon of Leadership:

We are immensely proud of Ethan McGuinness, one of our exceptional Youth Tour alumni, who was elected to represent Colorado on the Youth Leadership Council. This prestigious honor recognizes Ethan's commitment to community work and leadership potential. As a representative of Colorado, Ethan will have the opportunity to advocate for the interests and concerns of our state's youth at a national level. His dedication and accomplishments serve as an inspiration to all aspiring young leaders.

Open to High School Juniors:

The LPEA Youth Tour is an opportunity open to all high school juniors from our service territory. Each year, we invite students to apply for this unique experience when we open the application process in September. We believe in providing equal opportunities for all young individuals to expand their horizons, gain valuable insights, and develop essential leadership skills.

Testimonials from Inspired Youth:

Here are a few testimonials from the students who participated in the LPEA Youth Tour:

"I have been so incredibly lucky to have had this wonderful opportunity and experience through my local electric coop. La Plata Electric. This trip has given me the chance to broaden my thoughts and to be able to get a new sense of respect for those around me. I would definitely recommend applying for this trip, not only for its rich opportunities but for the friendships you make along the way. Going into my first day in Denver, CO, I was worried that it would be hard to make friends, but from the very first day, everyone was so welcoming and warm. By our last day in Washington D.C., everyone had made so many connections and bonds with the rest of our group.  To say these people have made an impact on me would be an understatement. They have truly changed my life. I'm so grateful for their generosity and support. My favorite part about the trip was the Broadway musical, Frozen, that we saw at the Hippodrome in Baltimore, MA. It was such a fantastic experience.  I also loved traveling to George Washington's Virginia home at Mount Vernon. Getting to experience all of these stunning moments with my friends made me feel on top of the world. I wouldn't change these memories for anything! " - Rachael Berndt
