The La Plata Electric Association (LPEA) Round Up Foundation is proud to announce it has awarded $89,890 in grant funding during the first half of 2025, supporting 33 nonprofit organizations across La Plata and Archuleta counties. Of these, 10 grants—about 30%—were awarded to Archuleta County nonprofits, the remaining 23 grants—approximately 70%—benefited organizations in La Plata County.

These funds have helped advance local efforts in youth development, food security, education, healthcare, and emergency family assistance—thanks to the generosity of LPEA members who round up their electric bills each month.

“Each grant we award reflects the heart of our membership,” said Carrie Hugus, LPEA’s Community Outreach Specialist. “Whether it’s supporting a food pantry, helping students access new learning tools, or assisting families through hardship, every rounded-up bill contributes to real, lasting change in our communities.”

2025 Mid-Year Impact Snapshot

  • $37,826 in Round Up Grants to 15 nonprofits
  • $14,655 to the Community Emergency Assistance Coalition (CEAC)
  • $4,868 to Pagosa Outreach Connection (POC)
  • $32,541 in Educational Support Grants to 16 nonprofits (funded by unclaimed capital credits)

Out of LPEA’s 37,000 members, more than 16,600—roughly 35%—participate in the Round Up Foundation by voluntarily rounding up their electric bills to the nearest dollar, contributing an average of $7 per year. These small donations make a big difference, supporting vital programs across the region. An additional 145 members contribute through Round Up Plus, adding extra monthly donations beyond the standard round-up. Members can join or adjust their giving anytime through SmartHub or by submitting the Round Up Bill form at lpea.coop/round-your-lpea-bill.

Since its inception, the Round Up Foundation has awarded more than $1.5 million in local grants, reinforcing LPEA’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the communities we serve.
