Pagosa Springs mountains and fence

As the Oak Fire continues to threaten our community, LPEA is taking proactive steps to protect residents, crews, and emergency responders. Beginning today, LPEA has initiated Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) in affected areas to reduce the risk of electrical equipment sparking new fires.

What is a PSPS?
A Public Safety Power Shutoff is a precautionary measure where power is temporarily turned off in high-risk areas during extreme fire conditions. This helps prevent electrical lines from igniting wildfires during severe weather or active fires.

Why is LPEA shutting off power?
The Oak Fire poses a direct threat to electrical infrastructure. To keep everyone safe, including first responders and our crews, power may be shut off on short notice.

What should members do?

  • Prepare for potential outages by charging devices and securing essential supplies.

  • Stay informed by checking LPEA’s website, social media, and signing up for text alerts.

  • Follow all evacuation orders and safety instructions issued by local authorities.

We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but your safety is our highest priority. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding during this critical time.
