LPEA is empowering our future workforce by offering scholarships for graduating high school seniors or equivalent (including GED graduates) in our service territory. These scholarships aim to help students continue their education in academic and trade schools. Scholarships are funded with Unclaimed Capital Credits. The application deadline is March 1, 2023.

To assist high school seniors and their parents with the scholarship application process, LPEA is hosting a virtual Scholarship Q&A Open House. This is an opportunity to talk to past selection committee members and ask questions. The virtual Q&A Open House will be on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at 6 p.m. Click here to register for the webinar.

2023 Scholarships:

LPEA Scholarship (2):  LPEA will award two four-year scholarships for students attending any college or university in the U.S. beginning with the 2023-2024 academic year. The LPEA Scholarship covers tuition, books, and fees (at $7,000/year over four years), given that the students maintain minimum qualifications.

“As someone who wants to pursue a community-focused career path, I’m aware of how the crippling cost of post-secondary education could inhibit me from reaching that goal,” explains Grace Holst, 2022 LPEA Scholarship recipient. “Receiving this scholarship has not only greatly reduced the financial burden on me but enabled me to enroll at a university that I otherwise may have been unable to attend.”

LPEA John Voelker Memorial Scholarship (2): LPEA will award two two-year scholarships for students attending any accredited vocational school, technical school, or community college in the U.S. beginning with the 2023-2024 academic year. This scholarship covers tuition, books, fees, and supplies (at $5,000/year over two years), given that students maintain minimum qualifications.

"This scholarship will give me the financial freedom I need to pursue a meaningful career,” said Tim Hittle, 2022 LPEA John Voelker Memorial Scholarship recipient.

LPEA Lineworker Scholarship (3): LPEA will award three one-year scholarships to two students attending an accredited institution, including a vocational school, technical school, community college, or university in the U.S., majoring in an electrical lineworker program. This one-year scholarship ($12,000) covers tuition, books, fees, and supplies, given that the students maintain minimum qualifications. Any scholarship overage, following payment of tuition and fees, can be applied to the purchase of tools and supplies required in the trade.

"I plan on being a lineman till the day I retire,” said Ryan Elliot, 2022 LPEA Lineworker Scholarship recipient. “This scholarship will help me be one of those people up there supplying electricity to the U.S. This is the best thing that's ever happened to me."

Tri-State Scholarship (2): LPEA's power supplier, Tri-State Generation & Transmission, Inc., offers two one-time $500 scholarships for students attending any college or university in the U.S. beginning with the 2023-2024 academic year.
