September Update from Chris

Dear Members,

I want to give you a quick update on your electric rates and the steps we’re taking to bring you cleaner, more affordable power.

Tri-State’s Board has approved a 7.5% rate increase starting January 2026. That would mean about $9 more per month for the average household if we were remaining a part of their cooperative.

The good news? Our contract with Tri-State ends March 31, 2026, giving us the freedom to bring you power that’s more reliable, cleaner, and better matched to our community’s needs. Over time, this means steadier rates and potentially lower bills.

Here’s what’s ahead:

  • January 2026: Tri-State rate increase begins
  • March 31, 2026: LPEA contract with Tri-State ends
  • April 2026 onward: LPEA begins sourcing power independently, giving members more affordable, flexible, and cleaner energy

Our Board is carefully reviewing all options before setting 2026 rates. Their top priority is keeping your costs steady while making sure your power stays safe and reliable. No rates have been set yet for 2026.

We’ll continue sharing updates so you know exactly how these changes may affect you. To stay informed, be sure to check your email, visit our website, or follow us on social media.

Finally, in honor of Co-op Month this October, I’d love to invite you to come have coffee with me and bring your questions. It’s a great chance to meet the team, learn more about your cooperative, and talk directly about what matters most to you. Thank you for being part of LPEA. We’re excited about the opportunities ahead and the benefits our transition will bring to you, our members.
