What to expect when we're upgrading your meter

LPEA replaces and upgrades our automated metering infrastructure as needed to ensure reliability and accuracy for our members. 

Among the many efficiencies on LPEA’s side that benefit the entire membership, the newer meters assist our members and staff to troubleshoot high-bill problems by providing information about power consumption patterns, outage and blink count history and voltage information. They have also improved billing accuracy, eliminating misreads or inaccurate readings.

In preparation for a meter exchange visit, please:

  • Make sure that LPEA's meter is accessible and not blocked by debris
  • If your property is secured by a gate, please confirm your gate code is updated in our system so our team can service your meter safely and efficiently. To do so, you may call or email our member services representatives at 970-247-5786 or memberservices@lpea.coop.
  • If you have a dog who doesn't like strangers in uniform on your property, please keep them indoors for the safety of our staff. You may also call us to schedule a time when your dogs can be indoors so we can get your meter upgraded safely. 

What to expect when your meter is exchanged 

  • The technician will always call or knock before upgrading the meter, but they will proceed with the replacement if they cannot reach anyone.
  • Meter technicians will only perform these upgrades between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:30 PM Monday – Thursday.
  • Replacing the meter will cause a short outage of less than 1 minute in most cases.
  • Your clocks and other electric devices at the property may need to be reset after this brief outage.

To ensure you receive a call before our team accesses your property, please verify your contact information is up to date in our records: 

  • ONLINE: Log in to your account on SmartHub. Phone numbers and emails are listed in "Settings" under "Contact Methods." NOTE: that the text alert system will recognize a mobile number in any field formatted for a phone number.
  • TEXT: Opt-in for text notifications by texting "TEXTLPEA" to (970) 247-5786.

  • PHONE: Call us at (970) 247-5786 and let a member service representative know that you'd like to update your contact information.
