With the monsoon season recently joining the list of ongoing weather events and the risk of wildfire threats still remaining, LPEA wants our members to know that we are continuing to act promptly and decisively when responding to threats. Our main goal is to protect the lives and property of our members, with safety, accuracy, and swiftness. Learn about the many ways LPEA is taking proactive measures to help keep you and your neighbors safe.

  1. LPEA will spend over a million dollars in 2023 on tree-trimming and vegetation management efforts. We collaborate with landowners to remove trees that pose a danger to power lines and facilities. With written requests, LPEA may assist landowners in tree removal efforts, further enhancing safety.

  2. We will continue to install smart devices along our power lines. These devices are equipped with advanced sensors that can instantly detect potential risks or damage to our infrastructure, such as fallen branches. When a threat is identified, power can be immediately cut off, greatly reducing the chances of fire ignition.

  3. We closely monitor weather conditions, especially on fire weather watch or red flag warning days. Additional lineworkers, and in some cases other staff, are placed on call during these times to ensure quicker response and restoration in case of outages.

  4. You can help us keep our power lines clear of trees by following better practices when you plant trees. It is recommended to plant trees at least 50 feet away from electrical equipment. With lifespans ranging from 50 to 5,000 years, you’ll want to plant your tree in a place where it can flourish long-term and not under power lines.

  5. While vegetation removal and our technology aims to stop fires before they start, we understand that in some cases, immediate action is paramount. If a credible threat emerges, we will shut off power to avert potential disasters.

In the event of an outage, our Outage Texting Service (OTS) allows members to report outages and receive restoration updates. We are constantly working to improve our communication with our members, especially during outages. LPEA employees, suppliers, and partners work tirelessly to restore your electrical service promptly.

Protecting against major weather events is a shared endeavor. We can collectively enhance our community’s safety by staying vigilant, reporting risks, and supporting swift actions.
