This year’s La Plata County Fair was buzzing with creativity, curiosity, and community spirit at our interactive STEM Booth. Partnering once again with the CSU Extension Office’s 4-H Youth Development program, we set out to spark imaginations and give fairgoers a hands-on introduction to the fascinating world of electrical engineering, circuits, motors, and renewable energy.

From solar racer cars to wind-powered vehicles, squishy circuits made with conductive dough, and our brand-new solar art station, the booth offered something for everyone. Kids explored how energy works while adding their own creative flair—whether designing colorful 3D wood puzzles, lighting up their first circuit, or experimenting with solar-powered art. The excitement was contagious, drawing in parents, grandparents, and community members of all ages who were eager to join the fun and learn alongside the kids.

We were thrilled to see such an impressive turnout. Over two days, more than 250 children participated in activities—an increase of more than 50% from last year—along with dozens of family members who stopped by to watch, cheer, and even lend a hand. The booth stayed lively from start to finish, with moments of ingenuity that left us inspired: a child turning their solar car motor into a flying plane, friends racing their wind-powered creations, and toddlers proudly showing off their first glowing circuits.

Events like this remind us why community connection matters. By bringing STEM to life in an engaging, accessible way, we’re investing in the next generation of innovators while strengthening the bonds that make our co-op strong. Thank you to everyone who stopped by—your energy truly powered this year’s success!
