La Plata Electric Association (LPEA) will host a Power Supply Town Hall on Monday, September 14, from 5:30PM to 7:00PM at its Durango headquarters, offering members an opportunity to learn more about LPEA’s future power supply options, ask questions, and provide input to the Board of Directors in advance of power supply decisions at the monthly Board Meeting, on Wednesday, September 16.  

The event will include remarks from Board President Nicole Pitcher, and presentations from LPEA CEO Chris Hansen and Chief Operating Officer Dan Harms, followed by a dedicated question-and-answer session with members. Members may attend in person or participate virtually via Zoom. Members are encouraged to RSVP either way via the links provided on LPEA’s website.  

As a member-owned electric cooperative, LPEA is committed to maintaining safe, reliable electricity at the lowest reasonable cost while being environmentally responsible. This is reflected in the cooperative’s strategic goal which states that “members will, on average, pay less for electric services than 70% of Colorado cooperatives, and by 2030 we will reduce carbon emissions by more than 80% from 2005 levels, surpassing state climate goals.”  

The town hall will provide an update on the cooperative's power supply strategy over the coming years through the lens of the strategic goal. LPEA leadership will also share the options and factors being considered as the cooperative evaluates their resource options. 

"These decisions will help shape LPEA's energy future for years to come," said Chris Hansen, CEO of LPEA. "We want our members to understand the opportunities and challenges before us, ask questions, and share their perspectives." 

Topics for discussion will include the roles of solar, wind, battery storage, natural gas, and other resources in LPEA's future energy mix. Members will also receive information on how the cooperative will balance affordability with emissions reductions, manage resource adequacy risks, and meet near-term reliability and regulatory obligations while continuing to build a cleaner energy portfolio over time.
