Last year, the LPEA Round Up Foundation allocated nearly $150,000 in grants to various non-profits and community programs in La Plata and Archuleta counties. This is great news for the local community!
These extra dollars will go a long way in helping organizations achieve their missions and support those in need.
So how does the Round Up program work? LPEA customers can opt to round up their monthly electric bill to the next dollar. The spare change goes into a fund, which the Foundation distributes annually as grants.
This year, almost 17,000 participating LPEA members raised over $87,000. LPEA also contributed $60,000 in unclaimed capital credits specifically for education grants.
Additionally, a portion of the funds went to emergency assistance programs in La Plata and Archuleta counties to support individuals and families in need.
While it's just pocket change for most, together it adds up to make a real difference for local people and causes. Hopefully even more customers will opt to round up their bill after seeing the impact this year.
